MLDS grant Sabine Daemen

Dr Sabine Daemen (Dept of Internal Medicine) received a Career Development Grant (160k) from the Dutch Digestive Foundation (MLDS). In this two-year project, Sabine will investigate the potential of targeting hepatic macrophages to combat liver fibrosis. To investigate this, she will use innovative techniques including spatial transcriptomics and spectral flow cytometry in liver biopsies of patients.

Each year, the MLDS invests in research to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. For 2025, MLDS has allocated over €1 million to six promising studies. This year’s focus is on liver diseases, esophageal cancer, colorectal cancer, and Crohn's disease in children. These research initiatives aim to provide critical advancements in understanding and managing these conditions. More information can be found on the MLDS website.
